About Black Circle
Black Circle is both a performing arts venue and a transdisciplinary dance company that, since 2023, has been working to challenge and expand the frameworks for how performing arts can be created and experienced. Black Circle Stage (2021) and the company Eluda Dance Co.(2016), which are part of Black Circle, are both led by choreographer and artistic director Emilie Lund Christensen.
In the artistic practice, Emilie Lund is the central driving force. She is a trained choreographer and dancer with a Master’s degree in Aesthetics & Culture, and she has spent the past 10 years working internationally in Mexico, Spain, Germany, and Denmark. Her practice operates at the intersection of dance, video works, and performative projects, where body language, architecture, and spatial structures are explored and activated in new ways.
The Black Circle Stage itself is a unique circular performance space, built in 2021 and developed by architect MAA Humberto Baeza & Co. in close collaboration with Black Circle – Eluda Dance Co. The space was created as an experimental scenographic framework, placing the audience in a 360-degree proximity around the stage, making them an active part of the experience. In 2026, Black Circle relocated from Holstebro to Aarhus and entered new local collaborations. The vision of Black Circle as a “Living Lab” continues to evolve—where artists and audiences together explore the future of performing arts spaces and formats. In 2026, the Black Circle team also included Iben Bredholt and Karoline Banke Seidelin.
